George Washington's Inaugural Address to the Nation

George Washington in his first presidential address gave a prophetic message to the nation on April 30, 1789 concerning America’s future.  The message said:

“The propitious smiles of Heaven can never be expected on a nation that disregards the eternal rules of order and right which Heaven itself hath ordained”.

Amplified, this meant that:

If America upholds God’s eternal standards of morality and follows His unchanging way, then it will be blessed with His favor… His protection… His prosperity…

But if America should disregard His eternal standards of what is right and wrong, then the smiles of heaven, the blessings of God, will be withdrawn – its prosperity, its protection, and its powers will be taken away.  In brief, He is giving a warning to the nation: the day America turns away from God will be the day that begins the removing of its blessings and favor.
